Fully Funded Scholarships at Swansea

Fully Funded Scholarships at Swansea

At Swansea University fully funded scholarships are being offered. The main objective is to drive the diffusion of next-generation organic and perovskite photovoltaics (PV) to support future technologies.

The team at SPECIFIC will develop the successful candidate’s skills in printing, coating, and functional material lifetime testing, and develop.

Photovoltaic scale-up and stability research activities are currently taking place at Swansea University’s new Bay Campus facilities in a purpose-built facility that includes a new stability testing and cleanroom printing facility. Printing capabilities include screen, inkjet, slot die, blade, gravure, and flexo printing.  Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop their specialization, giving them an experience that will benefit them.

Students will work in larger project teams to transfer small-area solar cells developed in the laboratory (packaged crystalline and organic photovoltaics) to a large-area industrial process. The project will be part of the ATIP program and will work with collaborators at Imperial College London and Oxford University to ensure targeted functionality and processability – developing scale-up strategies for depositing and drying solution-based perovskite and organic solar cell materials, using methods that meet the program’s design requirements, and enabling integration; with a particular focus on reducing the efficiency gap between small- and large-area cells.

The student’s daily activities will require the use of traditional laboratory methods (spin coating) as well as more industrially relevant methods (slot die, roll-to-roll, screen printing) to fabricate and characterize solar cells. During the course of their studies, students will have the opportunity to specialize in at least one advanced materials characterization technique (SEM, N2 adsorption, XRD, etc.).
