Fully Funded KESS II MRes Scholarship at Swansea University

*This scholarships is a component funded by the Welsh Government’s European Social Fund (ESF) convergence programme for West Wales and therefore the Valleys.*

Macroalgae (seaweeds) are a crucial resource in Wales and are traditionally harvested for hundreds of years for his or her use in food. Studying their potential health benefits (e.g. antioxidants) and bioactive compounds would support the event of high-value sustainable products to profit the Welsh economy. This project may be a collaboration with the corporate Pembrokeshire Seaweeds, and can blend field and laboratory work that involves physical and analytical testing of a spread of seaweed species.

Scholarships are collaborative awards with external partners including SME’s and micro companies, also as public and third sector organisations. The scholarship provides 1 year funding with a 3 month period to finish the thesis. The achievement of a postgraduate skills development award, PSDA, is compulsory for every KESS II scholar and is predicated on a 30 credit award.

Eligibility

applicant should have a 2.1 or above in their undergraduate degree in Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or a related subject.

Desirable Criteria –

Benefits

The scholarship covers the complete cost of UK/EU tuition fees, plus a stipend. The bursary are going to be limited to a maximum of £11,587 p.a. dependent upon the applicant’s financial circumstances.

There will even be additional funds available for research expenses.
