Harvard GSD 2021 Wheelwright Prize – Travel-Based Research Grants

The Harvard grad school of Design (GSD) is pleased to announce the fifth round of the Wheelwright Prize, an open international competition that awards $100,000 to a talented early-career architect to support travel-based research.

The Wheelwright Prize is hospitable emerging architects practicing anywhere within the world. The Wheelwright Prize is meant to spur innovative research during the first stage of an architect’s professional career. Now hospitable applicants from everywhere the world—no affiliation to Harvard GSD required—the prize aims to foster new sorts of research informed by cross-cultural engagement.

Applicants are asked to submit a portfolio, a search proposal, and a travel itinerary that takes them outside their country of residence. Applicants are going to be judged on the standard of their design work, scholarly accomplishments, originality and persuasiveness of their research proposal, and evidence of ability to satisfy the proposed project.

Eligibility

• Applicant must have graduated from a professionally accredited architecture course of study within the past 15 years. (Graduates before 2002 are ineligible.) Holders of multiple degrees may apply, provided they received their professional degrees between 2002 and January 2021. Applicants needn’t be registered or licensed.
• Applicants might not have received the Arthur Wheelwright Traveling Fellowship previously.
• Winners of the Wheelwright Prize might not hold other fellowships concurrently.
• The Wheelwright Prize is out there to individual entrants only; teams or firms won’t be considered.
• Current Harvard GSD faculty, instructors, and staff aren’t eligible.
• Winners are expected to spend a minimum of 6 months (cumulative) outside of their countries of residence so as to conduct their proposed research.
• Proposed research itineraries must not include sites within the us .

Benefits

The winner are going to be selected via an open involve proposals and a rigorous review process. The winner of the Wheelwright Prize will receive: $100,000 cash prize to support travel and research-related costs; invitation to lecture at Harvard GSD; possibility to publish research during a Harvard GSD publication.

Scholarships are awarded 70%-75%
