The ICWA fellowship program aims to nurture deep expertise in foreign countries and cultures by supporting a Fellow who carries out a program of self-designed, independent study abroad for a minimum of two years. These could include thematic fellowships, for instance examining questions associated with economic development or the environment that would be effectively pursued using the tactic of our fellowships.

Eligibility

• We expect candidates to possess the required language skills to permit to them to hold out their proposed project. Candidates proposing to travel to China, Russia, Indonesia, India, or Brazil, for instance , should have proficiency in Chinese, Russian, Bahasa, Hindi (or another relevant language) or Portuguese. it’s too costly and time consuming to start out from scratch, so we expect enough language proficiency in order that candidates are ready to function within the local language within a couple of months of arriving within the country. Exceptions are made for unusual languages or situations, but these are rare.
• Candidates must be under 36 years aged at the time of the maturity for the initial letter of interest.

A proposed fellowship must hold the promise of enriching public life within the us by enhancing the understanding of foreign countries, cultures, and trends. Public service within the us is our ultimate purpose, out of a belief that the us needs the knowledge and wisdom that our Fellows acquire.
• Fellowships aren’t scholarships and aren’t awarded to support work toward academic degrees or the writing of books or for research projects, meaning focused projects aimed toward answering specific questions, usually during a particular academic discipline.Applicants must have an honest command of written and spoken English and must have completed the present phase of their formal education. We don’t accept applications from currently enrolled undergraduate students.

Benefits

The Institute provides full support for its fellows and their immediate families. “Full support ” doesn’t mean unlimited financial support, and fellows are expected to measure and spend modestly. The Institute provides fellows with sufficient funding to permit them and their families to measure in healthiness and reasonable comfort and to satisfy the needs of the fellowship.
