Brief description:
The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) is hospitable outstanding non-EEA/non-EFTA students enrolling during a full-time master’s degree programme at Leiden University.

Host Institution(s):
Leiden University within the Netherlands.

Level/Field of study:
All full-time Masters Programmes at Leiden University with the exception of LLM (non-advanced) and MSc programmes at Leiden school of law.

Number of Awards:
The number and sort of award of the scholarship depends on the budget available for every Faculty department.

Target group:
Non-EEA/non-EFTA nationals (see details below)

Scholarship value/duration:
The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme has 3 awards:
• € 10.000 of the schooling fee
• € 15.000 of the schooling fee
• Total tuition fee minus the statutory tuition fee
The LExS isn’t a full scholarship. Non-EEA LExS recipients must still submit ‘proof of sufficient funds’ for his or her student visa/residence permit application.

Eligibility:
Students must have achieved excellent study leads to their previous education, this being relevant to the Master’s programme that they’re applying. As a sign, the scholar is amongst the highest 10% of graduates in his/her previous study programme. Note: proof of ranking isn’t required – this information is only to point the extent of competitiveness.
Applicants must have a non-non-EEA/non-EFTA passport and should not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (Studiefinanciering00000000000) – with the exception of scholars applying for the LLM Advanced Studies programmes or the MSc in diplomacy and Diplomacy that no nationality restrictions apply.

Application instructions:
You must first apply online for admissions to a Master’s programme at Leiden University. In your application, you want to indicate clearly that you simply would really like to use for the LExS scholarship on the scholarship section and upload your letter of motivation for the LExS scholarship. The deadline for programmes starting in September is 1 February (exception – Advanced LLMs: 1 March) while programmes starting in February features a deadline of 1 October.

How to apply

Scholarship Council Canada has electronic application center, fill in the form and upload your documents. Upon successful application submission you will receive an acknowledgment and electronic payment receipt. Keep it safe as a reference and wait for the outcome. Scholarship Council Canada team will take care of your further process upon qualifying.
