New Voices in Sydney’ was awarded to Professor Felicity Cox (2019-2022).
This project investigates the relationship between phonological production and ethnic diversity in multicultural Sydney. The aim is to produce an integrated and inclusive model of Australian English through phonological analysis of the speech used by adolescents from a variety of linguistic backgrounds. Suitable applicants should have a disciplinary background in phonetics or social phonology.
The Education Award supports international students with a shared passion for researching the PhD project, “Multicultural Australian English. New Voices in Sydney”. The aim is to produce an integrated and inclusive model of Australian English through phonological analysis of the speech used by young people from diverse linguistic backgrounds. Macquarie University is an Australian public research university located in the Sydney suburb of Macquarie Park.
Eligibility
- Applicants should have an excellent record of academic performance.
- Preferably with additional relevant research experience and/or peer-reviewed research activities that meet the University’s scholarship rating guidelines.
- Demonstrate your English language skills through the IELTS exam.
