Brief description:

Welcome’s International Training Fellowships offer nationals of low- and middle-income countries the chance to receive postgraduate training or postdoctoral research publicly health in low- and middle-income countries (other than India and China). you want to be based at an eligible host organization during a low- or middle-income country for scientific research, which might be your current organization or a special one. Your host organization must comply with provide the space and resources you would like from the beginning date through to the top date of your award. you’ll do your training at centers of excellence regionally or internationally.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

An International Training Fellowship is for 3 years, unless you would like to carry it on a part-time basis. If you would like to try to to Masters training or a diploma course relevant to the research proposal, the fellowship can last up to 4 years. you want to be ready to justify this training. The fellowship value is typical £150,000 to £300,000 for salary, fees, and research expenses.

The fellowship provides:

  • a basic salary
  • personal removal expenses of £1,000
  • overheads, which shouldn’t be quite 20% of the direct research costs if you’re based in a low- or middle-income country, and less than 15% if you’re based anywhere else.
  • research expenses directly associated with your proposal and
  • course fees if you’re registered for your higher degree at an area academic organization.

Eligibility:

Applicants for postgraduate training are for those that have, or are close to finish, an undergraduate degree and need to travel on to try to to a Masters or PhD. Applicants for postdoctoral research should be researchers with a PhD or equivalent. The proposed research must specialise in a health priority during a low- or middle-income country and applicants must have sponsorship from an eligible host organisation during a low- or middle-income country aside from China . they need to want to undertake a guided period of research in order that they will consolidate their existing experience and explore new areas of research.

Applicants are often those:

  • with a PhD and are early-career researchers, or
  • with a degree during a relevant subject and a few initial research experience, or
  • who are clinically qualified doctors (and are qualified to enter higher specialist training), vets, dentists or clinical psychologists, and have some initial research experience.

Those who don’t have a PhD, should start PhD studies at an equivalent time because of the fellowship. those that are within the last year of a PhD, must are awarded the PhD before they begin the fellowship. PhD top-up funding isn’t provided. Applicants should have a permanent or rolling employment agreement, who are at an early stage in their career.

The research proposal should be within Welcome’s science remit and specialize in a health priority during a low- or middle-income country. Applicants are going to be assessed on:

  • research experience
  • the standard and importance of the research question(s)
  • knowledge of the scientific area
  • feasibility of proposal
  • suitability of the selection of sponsor, supervisors, and environments and
  • applicant’s vision of how this fellowship will contribute to his/her career development.
