Brief description:
As one of its contributions to development cooperation, every school year KU Leuven selects exceptional students from developing countries as scholarship candidates to get their PhD from the most important university of Belgium. the worldwide Minds Programme is managed by IRO, the university’s Interfaculty Council for Development Cooperation.
The aim is to offer students the chance to conduct PhD research during a ‘sandwich’ system, which suggests that fifty of the research takes place at KU Leuven and 50% at the house institution of the scholar, supported by an area co-promoter. The PhD degree is awarded by KU Leuven.

Eligibility:
The applicant must be a citizen of 1 of the countries included within the VLIR-UOS scholarship country list.
Candidates who have citizenship of the EU won’t be selected. an equivalent applies to applicants with a long-term EU residence permit.
The candidate’s latest Master’s degree must are awarded no quite ten years before 1 October 2021 (including the continued calendar year).
The candidate must are awarded a tutorial grade like High Distinction or higher. Degrees obtained with a final score like second class second/lower division won’t be taken into consideration.
The scientific research must be of fantastic academic quality, with a special specialise in the event relevance of the proposal.

Application instructions:
The application procedure entails two steps: (1) first the candidate should obtain admission to a doctoral or predoctoral program preferably 2.5 months before the scholarship deadline. Applications started after 1 January 2021 won’t be finalized in time. (2) just one occasion this admission has been obtained, can the candidate apply for a worldwide Minds PhD scholarship. The scholarship application deadline is 11 March 2021.
